Leading agribusiness identity receives 2008 Rabobank

Leading business identity Nick Burton Taylor AM has been awarded the 2008 Rabobank
Leadership Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Australasia’s food and agribusiness industries.
Mr Burton Taylor was presented with the award in front of an audience of agribusiness
industry leaders at the fifth annual Rabobank Leadership Dinner in Sydney last night.
Presenting the award, Rabobank Australia & New Zealand CEO Bruce Dick said Mr
Burton Taylor cut a unique figure across Australia food and agribusiness industries.
“Over the past three decades, he has been a substantial pastoralist, a career
businessman and a highly-respected chairman and director across a range of
industries,” he said.
“Nick has also made a significant contribution to the rural community through the
promotion of education and transport services in rural and regional Australia. Most
notably, he has been tireless in his efforts to promote rural and regional education
among young school leavers, as founding chairman of the Country Education
Foundation of Australia.”
The principal of Hillgrove Pastoral Company, Mr Burton Taylor was until recently
chairman of Australian Agricultural Company Limited (AACO).
“Under Nick’s chairmanship, AACO flourished, developing sustainably from clear
positioning and environmentally-sound policies in a tough global market. AACO is now
the world’s largest beef producer,” Mr Dick said.
He said Nick Burton Taylor had demonstrated extraordinary commitment to a range of
agri sectors.
“He has also showed the mark of a true leader and stood up to some tough calls through
the course of his public life. And importantly, he has always acted with high ethical and business values,” he said.
Commencing his working life as an accountant with PriceWaterhouse Coopers, in 1976
Mr Burton Taylor founded placement firm Hays Personnel Services. This business went on to become a top 500 company in Australia, with Mr Burton Taylor serving as
managing director until 1989.
He has previously served on the boards of companies including Rural Press Ltd,
Graincorp Ltd, Agribusiness Development Capital, Bypass Stockfeeds, the Meat
Research Corporation, AirServices Australia, Sydney Airport Corporation, Hazelton
Airlines, Federal Airports Corporation, Heggies Bulk Transport and the National Heart
Foundation (New South Wales).
He is a past president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Mr Burton Taylor was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 1998 for his
services to business through the accountancy profession and to the rural community.
Mr Burton Taylor’s pastoral company Hillgrove Pastoral is a major beef, wool and grain
producer with properties in NSW and Queensland.
Nick Burton Taylor accepted the award at a dinner held at the Art Gallery of NSW.
Guests included the Ambassador of the Netherlands His Excellency Niek van Zutphen
and the Consul-General of the Netherlands Margarita Bot.
Keynote speaker was former Woolworths chief executive officer Roger Corbett.
